ONE night, TWO researchers, THREE minute Thesis Contest Winners
Absorb something in an atmosphere where no science background is expected. We’ll hear from two early career researchers who recently won their University’s Three-Minute-Thesis contests.
Rachel Davies, a PhD Candidate at VCU, will talk about using medicinal chemistry to make and study street drugs called Bath Salts.
And Dr. Diana Dinescu of UVA will discuss using twin studies to explore the relationship between motherhood and mental health.
While registration is required, it does not guarantee entry. Seating is limited and will be available on a first come, first serve basis. Room for 80 curious minds. Early arrival is suggested

Are these events for scientists?
Quite the opposite. Science Pub RVA nights are specifically created for the general public to connect with scientific thinkers and converse informally about curiosity-piquing ideas.
Will this be live-streamed or recorded?
No, this is a you-gotta-be-there-live event. (Click here to register on Eventbrite.) A still photographer will be present, though. Your attendance at this event is your consent to the recording of your likeness/image as well the use of photographs containing your likeness by The Community Idea Stations in any medium for any purpose.
How do I get there?
We’ll be at the at the The Center of The Universe Brewing Company in Ashland, VA. Click here for a map
What time should I arrive?
The program will start promptly at 6:00 pm. We’ll be ready for you in the venue’s event room at 5:00. Should you wish to arrive even earlier, you’re welcome to hang out in COTU’s main space and even join in for any part of their weekly “Beer, Bingo and Bloodies” fun from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm.
Will there be food?
A food truck will be there for those seeking sustenance or non-beer beverages.
How much is it?
Attend for free, or make a donation. $5 suggested per person. Look for the beaker on the welcome table.
Will I feel comfortable if I arrive by myself?
